Ikea part 2
Hawken King (March 3, 2007)
Took a trip down to Ikea in Yokohama today, and to my surprise they use HP display computers!
Way back in November 2004 I bought myself a HP laptop, only for it to fry it’s self some 14 months later ( Buy / I lost a year of diary entries so the Fry moan is gone)
So while traversing the maze of Ikea, doing my best not to get annoyed by the hordes of happy love birds, my earlier Ikea post came to mind. In that entry I mulled over the idea that maybe it would make sense for Ikea and Apple Inc to team up, selling iMacs from Ikea. Looks like HP have got in on the act!
However the irony of my tale is this; The HP display model they used is the very same one that failed on me, plus thousands of other un-happy zd7000 owners. Which, more amazingly, is not sold or serviced by HP Japan!
When my HP went “kaput!” back in February 2006, I tried my hardest to get it fixed here in Japan, HP told me that this model is unsupported outside of the European and North American territories. I guess all those cases in Ikea are from the returns they had, because the laptop was seriously flawed in it’s design, as recently admitted by HP. I eventually sold mine on Ebay to a computer repair shop for a 1/3rd of the new price.
In Japan it was interesting to see “european” rooms mocked up.
Felt a bit like Sarah in Labyrinth when she returns to her fake home.
